kitchen {a word in pictures}
I love my kitchen.
It's the center of our home, where not only cooking and eating take place, but learning, talking, laughing, creating, and just hanging out. It's a room run by rhythm and routine. There's something about the ebb and flow of cooking and eating, mixing and baking, dirtying and washing dishes, covering then clearing the table, that gives an anchor to a day. I hope my children will have wonderful memories of this place-- memories of helping measure and mix cookies and then eating them warm from the oven, of learning and crafting and bringing paper and crayons to the table, of sitting on the counter to watch mom chop and saute vegetables, of listening to beautiful music while dinner is prepared, of playing board games at the table past their bedtime.
Of course, this kind of memory-making is sometimes messy and I am ever-so-slowly learning to accept the fact that my kitchen will rarely be immaculate, that it's the workhorse of the home and it's meant to be used. It should be an inviting place, both for my family and for any guest that enters our home. When viewed in the right light, the kitchen changes from a humble place into a holy place where love is served and life is lived.
What do you love about your kitchen?

You write so beautifully, Amy! You described the heart of the home perfectly. :-)
Great pictures! I love the one of Alayna over the blender. :)
I love your perspective. It reminds me not to put "clean" as a higher priority than my relationships with my kids and husband. And your pictures are really great :)
