some Thanksgiving treats

I have a busy day ahead of me today...I have two pies and some apple-walnut bread to make along with packing for our overnight stay at Danny's cousin's house. We are spending Thanksgiving with some of Danny's extended family who live 2 hours away--should be fun! I thought I would leave you with a few fun Thanksgiving/Fall treats that we did over the last few weeks--enjoy!

Yummy!

Pilgrim Hats

fudge-striped cookies
mini Reese Cups
yellow frosting
orange M & M's (we also used yellow and red)

Spread frosting on the top of a mini Reese Cup. Place Reese Cup frosting-side down on the bottom of a fudge-striped cookie (making the hat). Use a dab of frosting to adhere the M & M to the front of your "hat" to make the "buckle" :-) Simple and fun!

This is the sugar cookie frosting recipe my mom used with us when we decorated cookies as kids! It is the ideal consistency for little ones since they can "paint" it on the cookies. Just grab some cooled homemade sugar cookies (I made mine whole wheat) along with this frosting and you're set!

Sugar Cookie Icing

1 1/2 c. confectioners sugar
1 egg white
Food coloring
hot water
small, clean paint brushes

Combine the sugar and egg white, beating until smooth. Gradually add hot water 1 tsp. at a time until you reach the consistency you like. Use the paint brushes to spread frosting on the cookies.

Have a wonderful, thoughtful Thanksgiving! May it be a day of reflection on the amazing gifts God has given us, both now and in the past.

"Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name." Psalm 100:4
